Our journey so far

We launched Pockett in late-March 2021. Nine months on, we can’t believe how far we’ve come.

Today, we are so proud to say that we have almost 2000 users from 132 countries worldwide! 🤯 We’ve received countless notes from you all expressing appreciation for our work, and countless more with great feedback and ideas on how to make Pockett even better. We truly appreciate every single review and every rating that spurs us to keep improving Pockett. We even had one of you make a contribution to Pockett’s development and operating costs! You know who you are, and we cannot express enough how much that means to us – thank you so much for your support!

What’s next for Pockett?

You might have noticed that we haven’t had an update in awhile. That’s because we’re working on a HUGE release that will include many of the most-requested features such as 📈 investment portfolio tracking, 📄 PDF report generation, 📁 local data backup/restore, and more. We keep our roadmap pretty up-to-date here so you can always see what we’re working on at the moment.

We’ve always hoped that Pockett will ultimately be the app that allows you to see all your finances in one place. That is why investment portfolio tracking is so important to us. When the feature is complete, you’ll be able to add all the assets you own and track their performance over time alongside your expenses, income, and net worth. A multitude of asset classes will be supported, including stocks, ETFs, mutual funds, forex, crypto, and more.

Keeping Pockett sustainable

As you know, Pockett started as a personal passion project and we do not make any money off of it – there are no ads, no in-app purchases, and we do not sell any data because we simply do not store any.

As Pockett grows in users and features, we expect our operating costs to increase significantly, largely due to growing server and data licensing fees. We have personally spent thousands of dollars building and maintaining Pockett so far, and this is not including our time spent on it which we consider to be completely free. While we have been able to fund Pockett’s running costs by ourselves thus far, the increased costs will eventually become too high to bear by ourselves.

To keep Pockett sustainable, we are considering introducing a paid plan for access to more advanced features, such as investment portfolio tracking. We hope that this will help to keep Pockett sustainable, and allow us to breakeven on our monthly operating costs at some point.

Nevertheless, it is important to us that we stay true to our original intent of building a personal finance companion for everyone. So we would like to assure you that Pockett’s original features for tracking expenses, income, budget, and goals will always remain absolutely FREE to use, for everyone.

We hope you understand that we are not introducing a paid plan for the purpose of making huge profits, but the sole intent is to allow us to continue building and operating Pockett while minimising the financial costs to ourselves.

Thanks so much for your support thus far. We’re incredibly grateful for the thousands of you who’ve joined us for the ride. We hope you’ll continue to support us on this journey and we’re super excited to show you what’s still to come for Pockett!

As always, if you have any feedback, ideas, or just want to say hi, please feel free to drop us a line at support@pockett.app – we’d love to hear from you!

Thanks so much for your support! ❤️

We received several emails and reviews from you guys over the last couple of weeks that really warmed our hearts. Thanks for your kind words and taking the time to send us your suggestions and feedback. It means so much to us to know that you’ve enjoyed using Pockett and are interested in helping it improve and grow! 🌱

We are actively developing Pockett and have many features in the pipeline that we can’t wait to share with you all. You can see what we are working on now on our roadmap. The major features in active development include:

🔁 Transfer between accounts
🧾 Receipt smart scans

Building the receipt scanning feature is particularly challenging as it requires optical character recognition (OCR), machine learning, and artificial intelligence expertise. We have explored integrating a commercial receipt OCR API, but the costs are simply too prohibitive, especially since Pockett is a free app and we are funding its development and running costs entirely on our own.

Many of you have indicated your interest in the receipt smart scan feature in our in-app survey, so we really want to make it happen for you. For now, we have enlisted the help of a friend with expertise in OCR and machine learning, and are working through the challenges of developing a robust receipt smart scan algorithm. We’ll keep you posted on our progress here, so stay tuned!

Please keep your questions, feedback, or suggestions coming. We absolutely love to hear about how you’re using Pockett, and what works or doesn’t work for you. We’ve got a new ideas board where you can post your suggestions or upvote features you’re excited about — do check it out!

If you’ve enjoyed using Pockett, it’d make our day if you’d consider making a contribution towards its development and operating costs. Any amount will be greatly appreciated!

Alternatively, you can also leave us a review on the App Store or Google Play Store. It’ll help tremendously with the App Store algorithm so more people can discover Pockett. Thanks so much! 🙏
